Mayor welcomes solar tower support

WENTWORTH Shire Mayor, Cr Don McKinnon, has welcomed New South Wales Government departmental support in principle for the Tapio Station EnviroMission solar tower project.

Enthusiasm for the project expressed at this week’s (Thursday) scoping summit of State Government, EnviroMission and Wentworth Shire Council representatives was "very welcome", the Mayor said.

"What we will now be looking for the respective departments to do is everything in their power to smooth the way for the tower to proceed once EnviroMission makes an official development application."

The Government Departments represented were Premier’s Department, NSW Agriculture, Department of Land and Water Conservation, Environmental Protection Authority, Planning NSW, State and Regional Development and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Manager Planning, Steve Mars, represented Wentworth Shire Council.

He said no major impediments to the project were identified.

EnviroMission’s general manager business development, Richard Parker, and general manager engineering and operations, David Penkethman, briefed the forum on the tower project.

The $700 million venture is expected to bring more than a billion dollars of business to the region.

Ends…
