Recent Media Releases 31 May 2002 Wentworth Shire Council Mayor welcomes solar tower support WENTWORTH Shire Mayor, Cr Don McKinnon, has welcomed New South Wales
Government departmental support in principle for the Tapio Station EnviroMission
solar tower project. Enthusiasm for the project expressed at this weeks (Thursday) scoping
summit of State Government, EnviroMission and Wentworth Shire Council
representatives was "very welcome", the Mayor said. "What we will now be looking for the respective departments to do
is everything in their power to smooth the way for the tower to proceed
once EnviroMission makes an official development application." The Government Departments represented were Premiers Department,
NSW Agriculture, Department of Land and Water Conservation, Environmental
Protection Authority, Planning NSW, State and Regional Development and
the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Manager Planning, Steve Mars, represented Wentworth Shire Council. He said no major impediments to the project were identified. EnviroMissions general manager business development, Richard Parker,
and general manager engineering and operations, David Penkethman, briefed
the forum on the tower project. The $700 million venture is expected to bring more than a billion dollars
