8 October 2002 NSW GOVT DECLARES SOLAR TOWER Deputy Premier and Minister for Planning, Dr. Andrew Refshuage, today announced State Significant Development status has been granted to EnviroMission’s highly innovative renewable Solar Tower power station proposal for regional NSW. “It is clearly a State significant proposal, needing the State Government’s resources and expertise for timely, thorough and effective assessment” stated the Deputy Premier. State Significant Development will ensure the planning process will be streamlined and effective. “A comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement will be completed and exhibited for public comment although no show stoppers are anticipated” says EnviroMission Chief Executive, Mr. Roger Davey. Solar Tower technology represents the largest non-hydro embedded renewable energy generation opportunity ever proposed for Australia. It will be capable of generating enough clean power for around 200,000 households when offered through the electricity retail market. Electricity will be generated from turbines driven by solar heated air
that is produced by simple and proven principals of physics that will
achieve reliable and much needed renewable energy that could deliver close
to 7% of the Mandated Renewable Energy Target from a single Solar Tower
power Development is progressing through advanced commercial negotiations with
suppliers, construction “State Significant Development now confirms the potential of EnviroMission’s Solar Tower proposal with Federal, State and Local government and highlights government acknowledgement of the social environmental and economic benefits expected from the development. “Solar Tower power will offer important difference to the renewable
energy sector that will deliver largescale, emission free, reliable and
commercially competitive electricity in what will also be an Australian
