Turbines

The Company is currently examining a number of different turbine options to maximise the project’s output with Kaplan turbines, similar to the ones used in hyrdro-electricity projects, having already been identified as compatible with flowing air operation. The tower’s updraft effect will draw the heated air through the turbines to generate electricity.

Assuming a 45% turbine efficiency, the tower can potentially extract approximately 380 MW day and night however, the company assumes 200MW in its initial performance projections.

The SCT Solar Collector heats air from ambient (say) 35°C to over 80°C.

And drives air towards the tower through 32 10MW air turbines at the Tower base.

Before funneling the air upwards into the cyclone to extract water.

The  hot air rises day and night with very little drop in speed at night.
